P20 Symposium for African Continent Speakers of Parliament
Overview
In a landmark move to centre Africa’s voice in global governance, the P20 Symposium for African Speakers of Parliaments will take place in Cape Town in the lead-up to the 11th P20 Summit. This high-level engagement will unite Speakers from across the African continent to deliberate on shared challenges and opportunities, with the goal of developing a unified African position to present at the P20 and G20 Summits. The Symposium embodies South Africa’s commitment to advancing the African agenda and promoting solidarity, equality and sustainability on a global stage.
Objectives
- To foster inter-parliamentary dialogue at the level of African presiding officers
- To consolidate African perspectives on key G20 issues including trade, climate, debt and mining
- To define and promote African parliamentary diplomacy
- To issue a joint communiqué with practical recommendations for the P20 Summit

- Trade justice and improved global market access for African agricultural products
- Climate resilience and adaptation, with reference to the Nairobi Declaration
- Addressing predatory mining and promoting ethical resource governance
