Overview
The 2nd P20 Meeting of Women Parliamentarians will be hosted under the South African G20 Presidency in Cape Town during Women’s Month, on 29 – 30th September. This pivotal event brings together women parliamentarians from G20 member countries, the African continent, and key international stakeholders to engage in strategic dialogue on gender equality and inclusive development. The meeting builds on the legacy of the inaugural P20 Women Parliamentarians Meeting held in Brazil and aims to deliver a bold, actionable platform for driving progress on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the lens of women’s leadership.
Objectives
- To facilitate inter-parliamentary dialogue on gender equality and social justice
- To elevate the role of women in advancing the SDGs, particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities)
- To exchange good practices and legislative innovations that promote women’s empowerment and representation
- To craft a joint declaration - the Cape Town Declaration - with clear recommendations for adoption at the P20 Summit
